Power Unlimited!

Even in the secular world, there are some on whom authority rests easily on the shoulders. They do not want to make a show of it and they know their limits well enough. Very few would have the feeling that they control the universe. They would be fit candidates for the asylum and rightly so. Likewise in the spiritual world, there are those believers in Jesus who understand the total authority that He had over spiritual forces while living here on earth. They also realize that He had absolute authority in every other sphere too but He did not make use of it; especially in the social and political arena during His time. In fact, even Jesus continually spoke of His authority as delegated and granted to Him.
Now in the church today, one thing that we always ought to acknowledge and reaffirm is that our authority too is delegated. Jesus spoke in Mathew 28 that all authority was granted to Him and therefore we can function in that because we are united with Him. However He is the Head and He alone directs that power and authority towards the glory of God. It either proceeds directly from Him or it indirectly brings the glory back to Him. Let us constantly remind ourselves of this. This is the only way we could find authority resting easily on us as well. Or else we could be playing with fire and can burn ourselves badly along the way.

What is good about prosperity!

It is a sad day for Christianity when we become dubious in using the term - prosperity. In this sin-infested world of darkness and distress, the word 'prosper' should be a life saver. Who else can prosper us except God alone? Even the worldly folks prosper because God is giving them a chance to acknowledge the One who blesses without partiality. (1Tim 6:17). The proponents of the anti-prosperity gospel have done us a big dis-favour by casting a shadow on the word itself. Yes, it is true that people always twist the Scripture to their own ends. Yes, it is true that blessing is not an end in itself. Yes, people are being misled to believe that life is going to be a bed of roses if you believe. However, prosperity is a Scriptural term and no force on earth can prevent God from prospering a man who has set his heart on God. There are some believer-hypocrites who would be uneasy in seeing prosperity in heaven itself. There is nothing negative about prosperity from God. Let us not demean the word itself. It is not an Old Testament concept alone. We go through difficult times not because God does not want to prosper us. It is only because God wants us to know that the highest level of prosperity lies in enjoying God in His holiness.

"Not now"

For many saints, worldliness is all about having possessions more than necessary or loving things more than God. However, we have the injunction from John that we should not love the world nor the things of the world. It is not all about 'things'. The world has a way to capture our attention in more ways than one. Worldliness can be manifested not just by our love for something but also by our lack of interest in things that really matter. One of the more subtle evidence is the response "Not Now". When we are asked to do something spiritual or share something that the Lord is doing in our life, if our response is "Not now" or "Later", it is surely an indicator that all is not well with our soul.

'god' particle?

Yesterday was my birthday. Along with a deep sense of gratitude for God's faithfulness, also had a foreboding sense of God's final day judgement falling on a people who are trying their best to act up to God. They do not hesitate to blaspheme the name of God and the grosser the better. Recent headlines are all about a particle which some scientist boldly calls 'the god particle' because they claim that this particle can do away with God altogether. All the questions that could only find its answers by pointing to a higher power were now being brought to rest on a teeny weeny particle which is so far still elusive but it is has to be there because it has footprints!. What man fails to realize is that there is an increasing sense of arrogance and a complete absence of the fear of God. There was a time when man used the name of God to damn someone. Now they want to damn God altogether.
